DAY 28 – DON’T BE TOO FAMILIAR WITH GOD

DAY 28

DON’T BE TOO FAMILIAR WITH GOD

Scripture:
“The Lord, the God of Israel, declares: I promised that your house and your father’s house would minister before me forever. But now the Lord declares: Far be it from me! Those who honour me I will honour, but those who despise me will be disdained.”
— 1 Samuel 2:30 (NIV)

Beloved, no matter how deep our intimacy with God becomes, we must never forget that He remains the Almighty, clothed in majesty and holiness. Familiarity with God breeds contempt, and contempt leads to spiritual downfall.

The Apostle Paul exclaimed, “O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgements, and his ways past finding out” (Romans 11:33). This means no one can ever reach the end of God. His holiness is infinite, His wisdom boundless, and His standards unchanging.

When God gives us instructions, they are not suggestions—they are divine pathways to life and destiny. Every commandment of God is a safeguard, not a restriction. To obey Him completely is to align our lives with His divine blueprint.

Eli and his sons are examples of what happens when reverence fades. Though God promised them a generational priesthood, their careless handling of holy things brought judgment upon their household. Likewise, King Saul lost his kingdom not because he didn’t serve God, but because he disobeyed divine order.

Child of God, obedience is better than sacrifice. Reverence is better than routine. Do not allow service to God make you lose sight of who you are serving. The Lord is not your equal—He is your Creator, your Sustainer, your Judge, and your Redeemer.

God still looks for those who tremble at His Word. “But to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.” (Isaiah 66:2).

Walk daily in humility. Guard your heart with reverence. Serve with awe. Approach His presence not casually but consciously, knowing you stand before the King of Glory.

Let us never allow familiarity to breed spiritual pride or carelessness. For God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.

PRAYER POINTS
1. Father, forgive me for every moment I have taken Your presence for granted or handled holy things carelessly.
2. Lord, help me to walk in holy reverence before You all the days of my life.
3. Father, teach me to tremble at Your Word and obey promptly, no matter the cost.
4. Lord Jesus, strip me of every spiritual pride and clothe me with humility and the fear of God.
5. Father, help me to continually honor You in my actions, thoughts, and motives, so that I may never be disdained.
