A GLIMPSE OF HIS GLORY
“And he said, I beseech thee, show me thy glory.” Exodus 33:18
After the heartbreaking rebellion of Israel with the golden calf, Moses returned to the tent of meeting not to give up, not to complain, but to intercede. In this sacred moment, God assures him, “My presence will go with you.” Yet Moses, filled with holy longing, dares to ask for more. He does not ask for victory, wealth, or comfort. His request is deeper:
“Lord… show me Your glory.”
This is the cry of a heart that has discovered that the greatest treasure is not what God gives, but who God is. Moses had seen miracles, wonders, provision, and protection but he longed to know God Himself more intimately. That is where true spiritual maturity begins: when our desires shift from “Lord, bless me” to “Lord, reveal Yourself to me.”
David captured this same longing when he declared:
“One thing have I desired of the LORD… to behold the beauty of the LORD.” Psalm 27:4
God’s Glory Revealed: His Character and His Goodness
When Moses asked to see God’s glory, the Lord did not respond first with fireworks or thunder. Instead, He revealed His name, His character, and His goodness:
“I will make all My goodness pass before thee…” Exodus 33:19
God’s glory is not only power it is His nature.
His mercy.
His compassion.
His justice.
His everlasting love.
Later, God passed before Moses saying:
“The LORD God, merciful, gracious, long-suffering, abundant in goodness and truth…” Exodus 34:6–7
The glory Moses sought is the glory we see today in Jesus Christ, the visible image of the invisible God:
“And we beheld His glory… full of grace and truth.” John 1:14
In Christ, the Father’s heart is fully unveiled.
The Mercy of Limited Revelation
God told Moses:
“You cannot see My face, for no man shall see Me and live.” Exodus 33:20
God, in His mercy, shields us from what we cannot yet carry. He allows us a glimpse just enough glory to transform us without destroying us.
This is why Christ came: so humanity could behold God safely, fully, and personally.
Transformation: The True Evidence of Encounter
When Moses returned from God’s presence, his face shone (Exodus 34:29–35).
This is what happens when a person encounters God’s glory:
• Pride melts
• Fear disappears
• Identity becomes clearer
• Worship rises
• Purpose awakens
And like Moses, we become carriers of that glory to a world in darkness.
“We are changed… from glory to glory.” 2 Corinthians 3:18
A glimpse of God is enough to ignite a lifetime of transformation.
