DAY 83-GOD: THE GREAT DELIVERER

“But upon Mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.”

Obadiah 1:17

The book of Obadiah is a stern prophecy against Edom, a nation that rejoiced over Judah’s calamity and exploited her moment of weakness. Yet, in the midst of divine judgment, Obadiah 1:17 emerges as a radiant promise of hope, restoration, and victory for God’s covenant people. This verse reveals the heart of God: even when discipline comes, redemption is never far from those who belong to Him.

This promise is timeless. It speaks to every believer who has faced loss, opposition, delay, or spiritual warfare. It assures us that God’s deliverance is not random it is anchored in His presence, shaped by His holiness, and fulfilled through restored inheritance.

 “But upon Mount Zion…”

Beloved, Mount Zion represents the dwelling place of God, the seat of His authority, and the center of His redemptive activity. While Mount Seir (Edom) symbolizes pride, self-sufficiency, and opposition to God, Mount Zion stands for humility, covenant, and divine rule.

God deliberately contrasts the seeming success of the wicked with the eternal security of His people. Though the enemy may flourish temporarily, God’s purposes are firmly established in Zion. Our hope, therefore, is not anchored in worldly systems, human power, or temporary advantages, but in the abiding presence of God.

For us today, Mount Zion is not a geographical location but a spiritual reality fulfilled in Christ. We have access to God through Jesus and are members of His Church, the living Zion.

“But ye are come unto Mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem…”

Hebrews 12:22–23

This assures us that no matter how fierce the battle, there is a divine refuge where God reigns and victory is assured.

Conclusion
In a world filled with many “Mount Seirs” places of pride, hostility, and false security, God continually calls His people to fix their eyes on Mount Zion. In Him, we find refuge. In Him, we are transformed. In Him, we recover all that belongs to us.

No matter what you have faced or lost, look to Zion. Look to Jesus.

In Him, there is deliverance. In Him, there is holiness. In Him, you will possess your possessions and live the abundant life God has promised.
