DAY 61
A GLORIOUS CAREER
“And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men.” Luke 5:10
There are many today who have invested time, strength, resources, and sincere efforts into life, yet their results have not reflected their labour. Peter knew that painful experience well he toiled all night and caught nothing. His strength, skill, and expertise as a seasoned fisherman all failed him. But the very day he encountered Jesus, everything changed. The yoke of stagnation and fruitless labour was shattered by the presence of the Master.
Peter had thrown his nets into the sea repeatedly, yet nothing worked until the Anointed One stepped into his boat and into his situation. The moment Jesus became involved, the harvest that had eluded him suddenly manifested in abundance.
So it is with many believers today. Many have diligently pursued their God-given assignments, yet the results seem delayed or unimpressive. We must remember that lasting, undeniable success is never by human might or natural ability alone, for “by strength shall no man prevail” (1 Sam. 2:9). True success begins when we enter divine partnership with God when we choose to trust His voice more than our experience and “launch out into the deep” at His command.
Beloved, Jesus declared, “I am the vine, ye are the branches… without Me ye can do nothing.” John 15:5.
Launching into the deep does not always mean finding a new career, location, or assignment. Sometimes it simply means remaining at your God ordained duty post, faithfully doing the things He expects of you especially the preaching of the gospel.
Preaching activates the transforming power of the Word. The Word of God creates, blesses, delivers, restores, and destroys the works of darkness. It was that same spoken Word that lifted Peter from being a fisherman into a global kingdom ambassador a fisher of men.
Peter saw the difference the Word made in his life and refused to cling to his old identity. He brought his boat to land, turned away from his former security, and followed Jesus wholeheartedly. Until that moment, his boat represented livelihood, stability, and career. But one encounter with Jesus was enough to show him where true security lies.
Many others in Scripture followed the same pattern. The twelve apostles left all to follow Christ. Elisha abandoned his cattle and farming implements to follow Elijah (1 Kings 19:19–21). Amos left his fields to answer God’s prophetic call. In our world today, many professionals lawyers, doctors, engineers, architects have left prestigious careers to obey God’s call into a glorious kingdom assignment.
Child of God, what is stopping you from preaching God’s Word? What has become your boat your symbol of security that you struggle to surrender? Be wise like Peter. Hold onto Jesus, the only One who has your permanent security, destiny, and eternal interest at heart.
When you do His will sincerely and passionately, you will never lack. He is the Great Provider who rewards His labourers and supplies abundantly to those who pursue His purpose.
